What is the Hygiene Rating Scheme?
The Hygiene Rating Scheme is a food safety assurance initiative designed to evaluate and grade the cleanliness, hygiene standards, and overall safety practices followed by food business establishments. The primary purpose of the scheme is to encourage safer food handling, promote customer awareness, and motivate food businesses to maintain consistent hygiene standards.
Who can apply?
The food establishments falling under this scheme will include:
- Food service establishments (including hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, dhabas, etc.)
- Bakeries
- Meat retail shops
- Sweet shops (Mithai Shops)

Validity of Hygiene Rating awarded?
The ratings awarded under the Hygiene Rating Scheme will be valid for two years.
